You need to defeat them to get the A ending, I think, which unlocks the Death Hammer. Strangely enough defeating the fiend (hardest boss EVER) gets you the Death Pillar, which is crap. Rachel and Nocto are nothing special, except Rachel has quite a bit of health and can activate YOUR traps too!...
