Books: The Bhagavad-Gita is my favorite book. I do not view The Bhagavad-Gita as infallible... it has stuff I disagree with... I view it as a guide and recognize it is the greatest book on philosophy in existence. One thing I disagree with that The Gita asserts is the notion that hot spicey foods are bad... I dont think hot spicey foods are bad. I prefer the translation by A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada even though I don't agree with all the things he states in commentary. He actually says some sexist stuff I disagree with in addition to a number of other things I disagree with. A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada is credited with introducing the so called western world to vaishnava hinduism in the form of Krishna-consciousness.

Hobbies: I am interested in brahmacharya. Brahmacharya is sometimes understood to be celibacy(a state in which one avoids the sexual orgasm completely). Rather than being understood as celibacy it is important to understand brahmacharya as being avoiding the sexual orgasm except when one is having an orgasm for the purpose of having children... it is important to understand brahmacharya as being this(as opposed to being a vow of celibacy) because it is important for people to have children... although having children may not be for everyone. For those whom brahmacharya does not appeal to it is recommended those people limit the sexual orgasm to once every month or so.

I think vegetarianism is commendable if done properly however I am not a vegetarian... some will say you have to be a vegetarian to be a hindu. This is not true... hinduism has no central authority so people can practice however they like. One does not need to be vegetarian to practice brahmacharya. I don't believe something just because its considered vedic literature although I think much of what vedic literature has to offer is wonderful. Vedic literature supports environmental concerns such as tree preservation. Being a vaishnava hindu I do believe in God who is Krishna however I understand my belief in God to be compatible with a belief in evolution. As far as reincarnation is concerned I am unsure of whether or not there is reincarnation. Chapter 2 verse 26 of The GIta seems to say that a disbelief in reincarnation is compatible with hinduism. If I was sure that reincarnation did not exist I would still be unsure as to whether or not there is an afterlife.
