Video of the AVR's first coal train up the P&W sub. The SD40-2's get their first real workout which almost prooved to too much. Watch for the ploom of smoke when they start up 2005 to help on the final pull up the hill. Time to turn up those speakers shake the whole house!

Dec 4, 2008 - I started paying attention to the AVR last year when I was back in Bethel Park for a week.SO I assume that this train is running from the bruceton W&LE interchange north west through Whitehall? Looking at the one grade the SD=40's were really putting out some horsepower with all the smoke billing out of the stacks.Infact speaking of the KCS I see their SD-40 units coupled to BNSF going through Nolanville Texas moving freight westward on the BNSF Lampassas sub.

Dec 4, 2008 - 3 diesel strugling to do what 1 Allegheny steamer could do at speed.Verginia RR conqured this grade 60 yrs ago? What a step backwards.

Dec 4, 2008 - At first they were running with just the two SD40-2s to test them out then they started the third unit when they knew they weren't going to make it. Also who knows what the Alleghenies would have done here since they never ran in Western PA (atleast not to my knowledge)

Dec 4, 2008 - I'm sure some folks would like to know, but only 2 Alleghenies exist,in museums.I would reckon 2 SD40 are a bit on the small side of even the diesel power. Thanks for the post.
