Dec 5, 2008 - Well I don't really want to get involved, but I do have a couple things to say.First of all, I have two dogs of that same breed (Aussie-Border Collie mix) and they are verrryy high-energy dogs that actually need a lot of ways to keep their attention and such.Although we don't blindfold them and train them to do all that (which does seem a little mean to me) I can say the dog probably does like it, being able to learn new tricks and keep her focus is probably good for her!

Dec 5, 2008 - The dog is digging it. Takes alot of attention (interaction) to get an animal to follow commands like this. Dogs love to please and this one is a champ. Better than being stuck in a kennel 24-7.

Dec 5, 2008 - This is hardly animal cruelety, Sweet Pea is from working breeds of very high intelligence, these dogs thrive on being given a job to do and exercising their brains. A wagging tail does not always mean a dog is happy any more than a non wagging tail means a dog is unhappy. Just like many people frown when they are concentrating Sweet pea is focused on what she is doing. It takes a special relationship to get this sort of working parternership. Great teamwork, I'm looking forward to seeing more.

Dec 5, 2008 - This is definately NOT animal cruelty.Working dog breeds are so intellegent that they need TONS of mental stimulation...Sweet Pea probably enjoys this type of stimulation.

jpfeiffer2 Says:

Dec 5, 2008 - There's a difference between mental stimulation and mental torture and stress. Having watched others videos of the dog doing the same and similar tricks I've not seen even one single indication that she is enjoying doing this trick. None. Instead she often shows clear signs of stress that are obvious to anyone that knows dogs. Compare that with the video of the little Sheltie linked above - that's how a happy working dog should look.

Dec 5, 2008 - There's a wide range of things you can do with your dog other than sticking them in a kennel, that doesn't justify doing this to them. Working dogs like this LOVE activities that let them run and play and work. There's a reason they are so popular in sports like agility and flyball because high level of activity is what they love most. This trick is just about the complete opposite of that, and everything in her body language indicates that as well.

jpfeiffer2 Says:

Dec 5, 2008 - There are plenty of clear signs of stress here other than not wagging her tail (which she doesn't do even after the trick is over, when she no longer needs to concentrate) Just the constant barrage of commands, switching all the time from 'back' to 'stay' to 'head up' - it stresses me out just listening to it! This simply is not teamwork it's a dog being forced into doing a cruel trick.

Jahrell101 Says:

Dec 5, 2008 - Jpf ur an idiot this is a result of good training not animal vruelty. There is a drastic difference. The dog is focusing thats why it looks like that. Learn more about animals before you jump into such conclusions.

winesparkler Says:

Dec 5, 2008 - This is not agility training. This is torture. I have a Border. I would NEVER subject him to this shit. Walking, frisbee, yes. This asshole, "Head Up, Head Up" Poor little dog . SCREW this guy, HEAD UP, HEAD UP, STAY, STAY, HEAD UP. I would like to tell this ass, HEAD UP, STAY. I hate him for what he's doing to this dog for HIS OWN BENEFIT!

ambshizzle Says:

Dec 5, 2008 - If she didn't want to do it she wouldn't do it. Border Collies love challenges; this is definitely not animal cruelty.

wuzzdog Says:

zhyraxzz Says:

Dec 5, 2008 - good job

chimera104 Says:

Dec 5, 2008 - Ok so it's not torture and yes collies do enjoy challenges but is this not more of a human's challenge? 7 years to teach a dog to walk upstairs with a glass of water on her head? Could that time not have been used to rehabilitate dogs with problems or training assistance dogs? Well done but people train dogs to save lives in less time!!

teeb000 Says:
