The Patron Saint of Subculture! What is subculture? It's the ability of an artist to "get up where they are" and express themselves creatively. Even if they have to work it out with their troubles.Born in the Netherlands 1876-1917. Mata Hari was the first woman in the 20th century to achieve "Rock-Star" status. She was an exotic dancer, performance artist, actress, singer, and poet. Mata Hari was The first woman to bring Eastern Temple dance to the West. She was The first woman to successfully turn nude dancing into an Art.Very famous and celebrated across Europe, she danced everywhere: India, Egypt, Madrid, Paris, Milan, Vienna, Berlin. Her Performance: The costumes, settings, atmospheres, and her dancing, were collectively a work of brilliant art. She danced smooth as silk; She owned her movements, and danced her rhythm.Mata Hari paved the way for the entertainer, years before the silent film and before electrically recorded music. Mata Hari was also famous for being a much sought after courtesan. Accused of being a double agent (more accurately framed and falsely accused), Mata Hari was executed before a firing squad in 1917. She refused her blindfold. It has never been satisfactorily proven as to whether she were guilty of being a spy at all.

Nov 19, 2008 - She was a smooth, graceful, seductive dancer. She expressed herself with the type of dignity one needs to show pride in the treasure of their own sexuality.

StarQualityWins Says:

Nov 19, 2008 - After her execution, (despite the fact that she was more than likely innocent) there was a group of people who wanted to slander her, with nothing but bad press and untruths. This is why it's hard to find much flattering information about her these days.

Nov 19, 2008 - Mata Hari was ahead of her time. The concept of a strong, powerful woman trying to freely express sexuality, and promote individuality, MUST have been scary 100 years ago. That's before Marilyn Monroe and Madonna, etc.
