Nov 19, 2008 - Amazing team. I saw them play in weeks 4&9 of that year in person. The best team I ever saw that DIDN'T win a state trophy. The inside linebacking corps of #54, #82, and #7 were the best I have ever seen in all the years I have watched high school football - they were big, fast, mean, and strong. The DB's were also great. For a person like myself that really appreciates defense, they were a blast to watch. That defense would have dominated all the way up to the 5-6A level and competed at 7&8A.

Nov 19, 2008 - Saw them too. PORTA usually has a decent team most years but that was a helluva team. They never had anything like that group in all the years i saw them play. Scary a** linebackers. I remmeber the safety being kind of an a** kicker too. did they have some injuries late in the year or somethin to knock them out of the playoffs?

Nov 19, 2008 - Not sure how they got beat. I think they got beat by Aurora in the third round. I saw them play Carthage/Laharpe late in the season; you were right about the linebackers - Wow, they were mean and physical. Those inside backers in the 3-3 were as big as most teams lineman but fast. I was told one of them went to ISU or EIU to play and one is playing at Northeast Missouri/Truman State (whatever they call it now). I didn't notice the safety that game. That was a great physical game

Nov 19, 2008 - I saw a couple other videos posted by the same person that posted thisone and got some answers. 82 is at Eastern Illinois and 7 is at Culver Stockton from what I am seeing clicking the more info button on highlight videos of the two. 82's name is keegan robinson and 7 is adam fricke. Still not sure what round they went out in or who they lost to. can anyone tell me where 54 went to play if anywhere? he wasn't as big as the other two I remember but he was just as tough as anyone I saw in years.

Nov 19, 2008 - #54 was an outstanding student who went to the University of Illinois to study engineering. No football. His name is Jeff Schappaugh. You are right, he was very tough - he brought intensity and effort to every practice and game. That was a very special team and they were all quality young men that any community would be proud of.

Nov 19, 2008 - I watched this years PORTA team play against Beardstown. None of the guys in the video appeared to be onthe field this year. They were an average team, but looking at their roster they are very young. They dont have near that size as they did in 07. I am guessing they should be a very good team again in 09 - i was sorry to hear they are leaving the WPT. A petersburg person told me they are joining a brand new football confernce called the capitol confernce or something like that.
