She's a detective and if she's seen as either than she knows that they won't take her a seriously as one would take a guy. Thus she dresses like a detective. look up Devil Summoner: Raidou Kuzunoha vs. The Soulless Army. That's where i think it comes from. Also if you tell her you love her than you get to see her in the school girl uniform on christmas. it is very nice.
