Nov 19, 2008 - Hi Meiko, I was showing my husband this video, just for our own personal edification about transgenderism, and he commented that he'd think it must be traumatic in some way for a ftm to have top surgery, no matter how you felt about your body/gender. Do you have any thoughts on that? (If not, I realize its very personal, so please accept my apology if you feel this is too private to ask.)

Nov 19, 2008 - I'm not Meiko, just giving my own answer.Maybe physically traumatic in the sense that it's a major surgery but I'd say the real trauma was when the started growing there in the first place.I mean, if your husband grew breasts one day (sorry for the image :P) would it be traumatic to him to have them removed?

Nov 19, 2008 - I'd have to agree with randithepirate. Having your breasts removed and chest reconstructed is major surgery. So the healing is traumatic to the body, and having to sacrifice nerve sensation to have the chest you feel is natural for your body, but the loss of body fat in that area did not prove traumatic emotionally/psychologically... at least for me.

Nov 19, 2008 - If I can answer, too...?After surgery, once I go tpast the physical problems I had with the drugs I got, I honestly forgot for a time what it had felt like to have breasts at all. It just felt that natural to have a flat chest. I think of it as if I had been wearing false breasts for a long time, and now my chest is finally bare, and the feeling is beyond even enjoying it - I have to try not to take it for granted! It's easy to forget I ever even had them at all.Just wanted to say that. :)

Nov 19, 2008 - I completely agree. Sometimes I try and remember what it even felt like to have breasts, because it's not something I miss. Like the reverse is true for my lower half. Even though I wasn't born with that organ I still feel it. But not my breasts.
